About the host
I am a multimedia producer and educator. With a background in media students and now a digital humanities scholar, I’m constantly interweaving storytelling, media-making, and pedagogy.
I’ve always been interested in how storytelling in all of its forms, is constantly shaping our society and our identities. As a Latina intersectional feminist, I’m constantly investigating women’s roles and evaluations. With openness, inclusion, and diversity in mind, I aim to construct impactful stories and bring awareness to global issues such as femicide.
This project is personal since I’ve always considered brujas interesting, cool, powerful, and a symbol of empowerment. I dressed up as a witch every year on Halloween, I’ve written about witches in the media, recorded video and audio all of my love of this powerful and influential character. I knew about its connection to women’s history, women’s rights, and feminism, but I never thought it would take me to investigate brutal gender-based violence and femicide.
I enjoyed combining all my passions and learnings as a digital humanist into one project that tells the story of the bruja. This character has evolved from a wise and powerful figure to a persecuted one, to one that is reclaiming her power.
